Julia Michael Scott, County Recorder

Julia Michael Scott has held the position of Athens County Recorder since February 1987 and has been elected to three terms of office. Prior to becoming County Recorder she served one term as Athens Township Clerk.
As County Recorder her office maintains all vital records pertaining to ownership of real estate and to encumbrances or liens upon it. Without the work of the County Recorder in recording, organizing, and safeguarding all documents in a competent and logical manner, it would be impossible to purchase real estate and be assured of a clear title or to lend money with real estate as security.

Since becoming Athens County Recorder in 1987 Julia Michael Scott has made numerous improvements to the Recorder's Office. She has installed a multi-line phone system, two copy machines, a fax machine, an on-line computer index, a cash register system, and a system for imaging of documents/on-line access. She has expanded the microfilm department, installed terminal to access Auditor/Treasurer records, and added a set of tax plat maps for reference. She has also re-created old documents.
