Judge
L. Alan Goldsberry,
Court of Common Pleas
L. Alan Goldsberry has served as Judge in the Athens County Court of Common
Pleas for over 10 years. His current term began on February 9, 1997 and will
continue until February 8, 2003. Serving as a judge in a trial court of the
State of Ohio, which requires decision making in various areas of the law
from criminal law (felony jurisdiction)
to administrative appeals and numerous fields in between. Judge Goldsberry
served on the Athens City Board of Education between 1976 and 1980, and was
an acting Athens County Municipal Court Judge between 1976
and 1986. He also served as a Glouster Village Solicitor from 1984 to 1986.
Judge Goldsberry has been married 30 years to Stephanie Sherow Goldsberry
and has three children Kimberlie, Stuart and Olivia. He is the current vice-president
of the Athens County Historical Society & Museum; Director and founding
member of Downtown Kiwanis Club of Athens (25 year old organization): President,
Housing for Athens Senior Residents, Inc. (non-profit corporation designed
to assist with programs and housing for senior citizens in the Athens County
community); Vice Chair, Judicial Corrections Board, Septa Correctional Facility,
Nelsonville.
Since taking office Judge Goldsberry has promoted computerization
of the Clerk of Courts office, which retains the court’s files. Assumed
in-house testing and licensing of new notary publics and renewal of licensure
of already
licensed notaries. With the Bar Association, successfully campaigned to expand
the court to two judgeships. Assisted with the efforts to improve security
at the courthouse, culminating in adding a full-time constable. Helped design
and operate the modernized and relocated Athens County Law Library. Promoted
expansion of law clerk position to full-time serving three judges.
Judge Goldsberry expects to see a continuing modernization of the court’s
facilities, including the addition of needed equipment. He thinks we have
the most progressive domestic relations division in the State, but says we
lack some resources. He hopes to find ways to augment resources to make it
possible to more fully implement the domestic programs. He expects to see
an expansion and improvement of the courthouse security preparedness during
this current term.
