Richard Abel, Mayor of Athens

Ric Abel has served as the Mayor of the City of Athens since January of 1996. He was most recently re-elected in 1999.
Prior to being elected Mayor, Abel served as the President of Athens City Council. He has also served for many years as on the Athens City Council.
Abel is a native of Athens County and a graduate of Athens High School and Ohio University. He and his wife Mary have one son, Jason.
